The Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and the Railways Ministry signed an MOU for The Golden Chariot and thus it came into existence. It was flagged off from Yeshwanthpur station in Bangalore on March 10, 2008. Within the past one year, this sole luxury train in southern India has embarked on several luxurious voyage of discovery through the Cradle of Stone Architecture. It is named after the famous Stone Chariot in Hampi, a world heritage site, in Southern India.
